To go along with our chips and dip last night I made yet another Heavenly Homemaker recipe – strawberry milkshakes! What a fun thing to have for Sunday night dinner. They were soooo good. And so easy! Plus very healthy. They taste like strawberry milk. But they are a little frothy from the eggs.
A few things stand out to me about this recipe. First, the nutrition factor. Raw milk, raw eggs (be sure they are farm fresh eggs!) and fruit. What’s not to love? Great protein, nutrients and vitamins. This would be a wonderful way to get a picky eater to get some good nutrients into his/her diet. What child doesn’t like milkshakes? It’s a great pregnancy drink too. Wish I had tried this during my first trimester. Maybe I could have gotten some raw eggs down that way. Also, the simplicity. It takes about 60 seconds start to finish to make this. So you can whip one up any time. I think I might start serving milkshakes with breakfast once in a while (a nice alternative to smoothies). Finally, I’m excited to experiment with other flavors. Blueberry, raspberry, peach or banana might be fun. And last night Rebecca said she would like vanilla. That sounds great too (leave out the strawberries and add some extra vanilla). You could even add some cocoa or chocolate extract to give it a little chocolate flavor.
So glad I tried this. We love it. I made a full recipe. It was plenty for the 3 of us.
2 cups milk
1 cup frozen strawberries
2 eggs (I recommend free range organic eggs if you eat them raw like this)
1 Tbsp. real maple syrup
¼ tsp. vanilla
Pour milk into a blender. Add frozen strawberries, maple syrup, eggs and vanilla. Put lid on the blender. Turn on blender and mix for about 20 seconds. Pour milkshakes into glasses and serve with a straw!
