Does one (or all!) of your children have food allergies? Sadly this is no longer a rare thing. More and more kids struggle with food allergies now than ever before.

I’ve been there too. Skin testing, blood work, epi-pens…the works. It can be challenging or down right scary.

But you don’t have to live in fear. And you don’t have to just accept food allergies as a life sentence. There is help!

My son went from over twenty food allergies and an epi-pen to being able to eat just about anything. Even nuts!

There are ways to heal the gut and nourish the body so your child can get back to a normal life. Food allergies have so many underlying causes. Once you figure out the root problem and treat it the body will begin to heal.

Don’t let food allergies define your life. I’m here to help you and your child heal.

My daughter’s birthday week extravaganza is over. I can finally relax and get back to normal life. She is my party girl. If there is a reason to celebrate she likes to do it big. Now I have less than two weeks until my son’s birthday! Time to start planning his cake.

Almost Done.

Lots of our regular activities are winding down (cue mama’s happy dance). Over the next few weeks we’ll be back to a more relaxed schedule. This week is still go, go, go. At least we get to go to the zoo!

I have a lot of great stuff coming for you in the next few weeks. Hopefully I can have laser focus and get it all done.

Now on to the food. Here is our real food meal plan for picky eaters. Keeping it simple as always. What’s on your menu?

Christ is risen! The Lord is risen indeed!  Happy Easter!! And Happy 9th Birthday to my oldest (tomorrow)!

Let’s Get Going!

We have a busy week ahead with family over, celebrating my daughter’s birthday, a trip to the zoo, two dentist appointments, our usual activities, bringing a meal to a friend and a party. I’m not sure how this all ended up this week. I hope I’m up for the challenge!

I’m glad my big kids will be able to help me in the kitchen this week. They each get turns to make dinner. And hopefully help me bake too.

Do You Know The Facts?

Have you been tuning in to The Truth About Vaccines documentary? I can’t focus on anything else. It is so fascinating…and infuriating. Parents need to know the facts and have a choice!

We thought it might never come…but spring is finally here! It’s supposed to be around 70 degrees today!! I just hope it stays. We could all use some time in the sun and fresh air.

Back to Normal.

In spite of the nasty weather we had a lot of fun on spring break. But this week it’s back to normal routines (and I’m glad!).

My goal this week is to get the kids back in the kitchen with me. My oldest needs to work on some new skills that she’s learning in the Kids Cook Real Food ecourse. My daughter is almost 9 and already doing some of the advanced skills. You can sign your kids up too and get a free download with 10 healthy snacks kids can make by themselves.

Now on to the food! Here is our real food meal plan for picky eaters (though picky eaters don’t really exist in my house anymore).

Is it really April already? March was a bit of a fog with sickness. But now everyone is healthy and ready to get out in the nice spring weather!! Hopefully it will stick around now since this week is spring break.

We aren’t going on any fancy trips. But we are taking a break from our regular school work to do fun stuff like hiking, a Spanish puppet show and making a fair garden. The kids and I want to work on barn clean up too. Our chicks are getting so big. They’ll be out in the coop before we know it. We might spend some time in the kitchen. I have to see if the kids have any requests.

Get Your Copy!

If you haven’t gotten your copy yet now is a great time to check out my new book Easy Nourishment For Picky Eaters! I’ve got lots of fun recipes that any kid will love.

Easy Nourishment for Picky Eaters

Happy Birthday!

This week we have another celebration – my husband’s birthday! He requested lasagna for his birthday dinner. And we’re making grasshopper pie for dessert. Then as a really special treat we are going out to eat as a family this weekend. Due to extreme allergies we haven’t been to a restaurant in over a year. My youngest has never even tasted food from a restaurant (not a bad thing if you ask me!). But we are all pretty excited to go out for once. Now I just have to find a decent restaurant.

New Food!!

We’ve been doing a little more food introduction lately. I am amazed at how much food my little one tolerates now! She is doing ok with eggs it seems, as long as we don’t go crazy and eat them every day. Which is hard because she LOVES eggs. She’s been eating clementines lately too without any reactions. Another new favorite. Plus sweet potatoes, cranberries and beets. It’s so exciting to have so many options!!

But not everything goes well when we try it. Last week we tried pineapple. The meltdowns from my two youngest were unreal. Not to mention the tummy aches and return of picky eating. That was a big NO. It bothers my husband too. So it looks like my oldest and I get to enjoy the rest.

Here is our real food meal plan for picky eaters. In my house nobody turns down tacos and cheeseburgers. What’s on your menu?

Back on Track!

We made it! We all (except one lucky child that never had it) made it through the flu. It wasn’t easy keeping up with life while I was sick. But we managed. Now it’s time to get back to normal routines.

I’m trying some new recipes this week. I’m anxious to see if the kids like them or not. If they are a hit I’ll be sure to share!

In the Kitchen.

There aren’t many big kitchen projects this week. If time allows I’d like to make a new batch of gluten free graham crackers. Maybe I’ll make a chocolate version since my kids want to make grasshopper pie for my husband’s birthday next week.

Exciting News!

One thing I did accomplish this weekend was to finish my new book! I’ve got a few technical things to deal with before I release it. But my goal is by next weekend.

Another exciting thing is that my toddler is finally back on track with eating well after being sick! It’s such a relief to me to have her eating and sleeping so well again. As an added bonus I let her try eggs again. And no reaction! I’m going to try giving her eggs once a week and see how it goes.

I bet you can guess how our week is starting? Yep, we’re still dealing with illness! I’m praying mother nature pays attention to the calendar and realizes that spring starts this week. We are so ready to get outside, soak up some vitamin D and get rid of the germs!!

House Before Kitchen

Considering how last week went I didn’t add any extra to-do’s to my list this week. My goal is just to deal with laundry and clean the house. Kitchen time will be saved for meal prep only.

We are going with Taco Tuesday again this week so my son can keep practicing his stove top skills. My goal is in the next couple months that I won’t need to help or monitor at all. He already has his own taco seasoning recipe to follow.

Kids in the Kitchen

Speaking of kids cooking, the Kids Cook Real Food ecourse is coming back! It’ll be open in April. If you want your kids to become independent in the kitchen as much as I do my kids make sure you check it out! And if you are a fellow home schooler it is so easy to incorporate into your curriculum.

Do you have any picky eaters in your house? Grab some of these kid-friendly meal ideas and add some nourishment and great eating to your week!

Yes, for real, we have more sickness. My toddler woke up Friday night vomiting. Thankfully it was pretty short-lived. We are praying it doesn’t spread!

Spring Forward!

Are you feeling tired this morning or did you go to bed an hour early? Or maybe you don’t have to worry about daylight savings. I hope we all adjust quickly. Taking away an hour of sleep is hard!

Let’s Party!

This week we have all of our usual activities plus something fun – my birthday! We started a tradition last year that the kids plan and cook dinner on my birthday. It’s so much fun! And a special treat to not have to plan a meal for once. I can just relax and let someone cook for me (well, mostly…I’m sure I’ll have to lend a hand here and there).

I also have a fun birthday post coming up on Tuesday. Stay tuned.

What Grade Would You Give Your Food? I give mine a B!

I like to be a good steward with my finances. I look for the best deals when I shop for food and health and beauty products. But that’s not the only factor to consider.

Quality Matters

I could buy a grocery cart full of really cheap food…and pay for it with my health. Instead I look for the best quality that fits within my budget.

My decisions about what to feed my family and what to use on our bodies and in our home are not just about organic vs. non-organic. They go deeper. I love to support companies that are using their business as a force for good. That means they are having a positive impact socially and environmentally.

If you’re like me you don’t have time to research every company to see how they do business. When it comes to our food, quality matters! That's why I support B Corp certified products like Stonyfield Yogurt and many more.

Do They Make the Grade?

That’s why it’s so nice to have the B Corp certification. You can simply look at the product package to see if you are supporting a quality company. When it comes to our food, quality matters! That's why I support B Corp certified products like Stonyfield Yogurt and many more.

Certified B Corps meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability.

Who’s in this great group? There are many B Corp certified companies (you can find a list here). I recently got the chance to try a few. They include:

  • Stonyfield Yogurt (we LOVE their whole milk grass-fed yogurt)
  • Pukka (tulsi tea is great for women)
  • Preserve (all of my kids wanted this toothbrush…but I told them mama gets it)
  • Purely Elizabeth (granola is one of my absolute favorite foods…this one is amazing)
  • King Arthur (as an avid gluten free baker this gluten free blend comes in handy)
  • Method (the kitchen is where I spend most of my day…which means my kids do too…and we have plenty of opportunties to wash hands!)
  • Pete and Gerry’s (I could eat eggs every single day. They are a nutrient powerhouse. But for me quality is so important when it comes to eggs since we use a lot of raw yolks.)

When it comes to our food, quality matters! That's why I support B Corp certified products like Stonyfield Yogurt and many more.
I’ve been a fan of Stonyfield for many years (and my kids sure love trying all their products!! They fought over our yogurt). I love knowing we are getting organic dairy.

Some of these companies are new to me. It’s always fun to be introduced to new companies and products that are high quality and making the world a better place. When it comes to our food, quality matters! That's why I support B Corp certified products like Stonyfield Yogurt and many more.

My Favorite

Of all the products my favorite was the Pukka tulsi tea. I’m working hard right now to balance my hormones and supercharge my diet to replenish nutrients after breastfeeding for 2 1/2 years (!!). Just days before receiving this package a friend suggested trying tulsi tea. You can imagine my great delight to find some on my doorstep!!

I’ve been combining the Pukka tulsi tea with a few other herbs like hibiscus, red raspberry leaf and nettles to really give myself a boost and support my hormones. This tea gets both an A+ and a B from me!When it comes to our food, quality matters! That's why I support B Corp certified products like Stonyfield Yogurt and many more.

Are you using your dollars to support companies that meet a high standard in addition to delivering quality food? It is important not only for our bodies but also for our children’s futures.

The next time you go shopping make sure your food makes the grade. Make sure it scores a B!

I am working with Stonyfield Yogurt for this post. I have been compensated for my time but all opinions are my own.

Once a Week

We only had one “sickness” last week…a strange pink eye type thing or allergic reaction. We’re not sure. At least it was short-lived. Here’s hoping this week is totally illness free!

Farm Life

I was quite busy in the kitchen last week. Hopefully I don’t have to work too hard this week. But kids sure do eat a lot!

The countdown to becoming real farmers is on! We’ll soon have our first chickens. The whole family is excited.

Another week. Another fever.

I’m starting to think at least one child will have a fever every week until winter is over. Thankfully it was another short-lived thing.

We have a busy week ahead with orthodontist, music, Spanish, piano and out-of-town guests! That means I’ll be busy in the kitchen any  chance I get.

In the Kitchen

I have a lot of fun food I’d like to make. But I’m not sure I’ll have enough time. Here is my list of potentials.

Looking at that list I may need to have a full week of cooking class for my kids instead of any other school work.
